Cars of the Iranian concern Iran Khodro will appear in Russia in early 2023

They want to transfer the Russians to Iranian cars as early as the beginning of next year - such terms were named in the largest automaker of this country, Iran Khodro. The first car to appear on the Russian market will be the Tara sedan, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes with reference to the head of the testing department, Behruz Ahmadzade.

Tara is made on the basis of the Peugeot 301. It will be re-equipped especially for Russia: the car will have a video recorder, heated rear seats, LED headlights, and a “starry sky” illuminated ceiling.

So far, this is the only Iranian car that will be brought to the Russian market, but the concern promises that the model line will be expanded. In addition, the Iranians want to localize production and make cars directly in Russia.

The price is still unknown, but it is called competitive. In the meantime, dealers are selling the new Lada Vesta, with the assembly of which there are problems in Russia, for a huge amount of money - 3 million rubles.

The Iran Khodro concern tried to enter the Russian market 20 years ago. In 2006-2009, Russians could buy a Samand sedan made on the Peugeot 405 platform. However, this car was not in demand. During all this time, only a few thousand of these cars have been sold, writes Autonews.

Auto expert Petr Bakanov, in a conversation with The Insider, clarifies that the Iranian cars then turned out to be not very interesting to the Russians, given the quality of their assembly and pricing policy. If now the market is faced with a situation where foreign companies leave for a long time and seriously, and it will not be possible to import cars by roundabout ways, then the Iranian option may become “interesting” – just like the Chinese one.

Raises concerns, however, the issue of safety. So, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Behind the Wheel" Maxim Kadakov said that the quality of Iranian cars can be indicated by the fact that even Syria and Iraq refuse them - not the most demanding countries in this regard.

Petr Bakanov nevertheless notes that everything depends on the process of assembling the car: who will produce the parts and who will assemble. “If we talk about the original model, that is, the Peugeot 301, everything is fine with it. But even a good car can be ruined by the disgusting quality of the metal and assembly. Any engineering can simply fade. Iran Khodro is a dark horse. The cars that were brought in in the 2000s were completely different, but time still moves forward. All these questions, however, are open.
