Moscow municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov wrote a letter from the pre-trial detention center in which he said that he was being refused medical assistance.
According to Gorinov, he has been sick for the third week:
“I experience a continuous cough that does not allow me to breathe freely, sleep, eat. No medical assistance is provided to me (diagnosis, determination of the course of treatment). My condition is deteriorating. Please help."
The Insider contacted Gorinov's lawyer Katerina Tertukhina. At the time of the call, she had just left the pre-trial detention center. According to her, Gorinov is “very ill” and he needs urgent hospitalization:
“He cannot eat, he has lost a lot of weight. Due to coughing, Alexey cannot sleep properly. He is in a very small cell, where, in addition to him, four other people are kept. And since it's hot in Moscow right now, no fresh air gets into the cell. I am very worried about his life and health. It seems to me that everyone needs to pay attention to this situation, Alexei needs to be saved.
He has not received medical assistance for three weeks. A full examination of specialists is required to make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment. It seems to me that in this case it is possible only within the framework of the hospital. Alexei had a lung disease in 2016, that is, not so long ago. This is a rather serious illness, and before he was put in jail, he had problems from time to time, but there has never been anything like it now.”
On July 8, Gorinov was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony under the article on the dissemination of “fake news” about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces (part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The reason was that at a meeting of the council of deputies, he called for stopping the war in Ukraine and withdrawing Russian troops from there. Gorinov was the first to receive a real term under this article. He did not admit guilt.
