During the war, 464 episodes of war crimes committed by the Russian military against Ukraine's cultural heritage sites were recorded. Such data are provided by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

Crimes were recorded in 15 regions of Ukraine. Most objects were damaged in Kharkov, Donetsk regions (104 in each) and Kyiv regions (79). In total, the Russian military damaged or destroyed 139 cultural monuments. Of these, 23 are of national importance, 109 are of local importance, 108 are objects of valuable historical development and 7 are newly opened.

361 art objects and cultural institutions were also damaged or destroyed: 162 religious buildings, 70 houses of culture and other art cells, 51 memorial monuments, 44 libraries, 34 museums and reserves.

One of the latest recorded crimes against art monuments was recorded on the night of August 9-10. Then the Russian military during the shelling of the city of Marganets, Nikopol district, Dnepropetrovsk region, damaged the house of culture and the school of arts. Despite this and numerous other testimonies, Russia continues to claim that it is only targeting Ukraine's military infrastructure.
