The court sentenced to three years of probation an Adyghe activist who was beaten by security forces because of his son’s yellow and blue clothes

The Maykop City Court of the Republic of Adygeya sentenced activist Roman Taganov to three years of probation and two years of probation in the case of violence against a policeman (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by his wife Ekaterina. The post drew the attention of Mediazone.

The prosecutor's office requested three years in a colony-settlement for the activist. As his lawyer told the Caucasian Knot, Taganov did not plead guilty at a meeting on July 29 and will appeal the verdict, as he considers the case political.

Security forces in civilian clothes attacked and beat Roman Taganov while walking with his seven-year-old son in Adygea in March of this year. Employees of the FSB and the Center “E” filmed what was happening on video from two angles, the wife of the activist Ekaterina published the footage on the Telegram channel.

At the same time, a criminal case was initiated against the activist himself on the use of violence against a policeman; on March 17, he was sent under house arrest. Catherine claimed that her son's yellow hat and blue jacket were the probable cause of the attack. Previously, the family thought that the husband was severely detained because of the green ribbon, which he used to draw attention to environmental issues.

The family moved to Adygea from Novosibirsk, where in 2020 Roman was nominated to the Council of Deputies. In Adygea, he was an election observer from the Communist Party, raised environmental issues and participated in the Mayak movement, including collecting signatures for the resignation of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. In the movement, the criminal prosecution of Taganov was linked to his anti-war position.
