In Montenegro, as part of the sanctions, they began to freeze the real estate of Russian citizens. It is reported by Balkan Insight with reference to the country's Foreign Ministry.
On June 10, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro, Filip Adzic, announced that 44 real estate objects owned by Russians would be frozen in the country. This will be done as part of the sanctions imposed on Russia because of its attack on Ukraine. According to Balkan Insight, the property of two Russians has already been frozen. One of them is the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the "LPR" Marat Bashirov. The name of the second is not called.
According to Kommersant, in 2021, Russian citizens and Russian companies invested more than €129 million in the Montenegrin economy, of which €49.46 million was invested in real estate. According to the Russian Ambassador of Montenegro, Vladislav Maslennikov, over the past 15 years, Russians have invested at least €1.5 billion in the economy of the southeastern country.
In early March, Russia added Montenegro to the list of "unfriendly" states. This list also included Ukraine, the USA, all 27 EU countries, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, Japan and others. On April 8, Montenegro joined the sanctions imposed against Russia.
