In the lists of applicants to universities, the data of military children participating in hostilities in Ukraine were classified, Kommersant writes . This year, they received benefits upon admission, they were given a special quota in universities - 10% of the total number of state-funded places.
Depending on the university, all applicants are identified by their full name or SNILS number, and this data is in the public domain, but the children of war veterans are assigned a special number, and their personal data is hidden. As explained in the universities, this is the requirement of the Ministry of Education and Science. For what reasons such a decision was made, the department did not explain to the publication.
Children of wounded or dead soldiers can enter this year without exams, and children of active soldiers can be enrolled with low USE scores, or they will be able to retake the exam.
Kommersant studied the lists of applicants and found out that there are fewer applicants who want to use the quota than there are places reserved for them.
As the Ministry of Education and Science told the publication, almost 426,000 places have been allocated for undergraduate and specialist programs for universities this year, and 43,500 places (10%) have been reserved under a special quota.
For example, Moscow State University allocated 408 out of 4.1 thousand budget places for children of the military. According to the lists of applicants, 146 people wanted to use the special quota. The Russian State University for the Humanities has allocated 150 state-funded places, but only 110 people have applied. At the Higher School of Economics, out of 2,500 state-funded places, 266 were allocated, and 173 people wanted to use the quota. MIPT received only two applications from the children of military personnel.
The publication notes at the same time that applicants can apply to five universities for several specialties at once - perhaps some applicants-beneficiaries took advantage of this opportunity.
