The Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the Antonovsky Bridge, which is strategically important for Russia, with the help of which the Russian Federation supplies its army. The strike was announced by the speaker of the Operational Command "South" Natalya Gumenyuk on the air of the telethon, as well as the pro-Russian "administration" of the Kherson region.
According to Gumenyuk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine keep strategically important logistics and transport facilities under fire control.
“This does not give them the opportunity to maneuver, pull forces and ammunition. We appreciate everything that is in our country, even if it is under the occupiers. We don't destroy infrastructure - we destroy the plans of the enemy."
The deputy head of the “administration” of the Kherson region, established by Russia, Kirill Stremousov, also reported on Telegram about the strike. According to him, the bridge across the Dnieper is completely closed to traffic. He claims that the strikes were carried out from the American HIMARS MLRS, in a few hours more than 10 missiles were fired at the bridge: some of them were intercepted by air defense, some hit the bridge. In addition, during the shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the railway bridge across the Dnieper was damaged, Stremousov added.
The automobile and pedestrian Antonovsky bridge across the Dnieper connects the village of Antonovka in the Kherson region with the city of Alyoshki. It is one of three river crossings controlled by the Russian army. On the bridge, the Russian Federation supplies its military personnel located on the right bank of the river. A few days ago, the bridge was already damaged by shelling, then the traffic was only partially blocked.
Earlier in July, two ships with corner reflectors appeared near the arches of the Crimean bridge, presumably, these are ships of project 436 bis. They are used to deceive the radar homing heads of missiles and divert the strike from a real target to a false target. In this case, the enemy missile is aimed at the reflected signal. Also, exercises were conducted on the bridge with the installation of an aerosol curtain, which is used as a means of counteracting high-precision weapon systems at the stage of aiming ammunition at a target.
According to military experts, so far Ukraine does not have ammunition of the required range that could reach the bridge. However, it can become one of the goals in case of successful capture of Kherson by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this case, the bridge will be able to destroy and make the Crimea an enclave, blocking access to it from both the north and the east of the peninsula.
