Vice-Rector of the RANEPA placed under house arrest in the case of fraud

The Tverskoy Court of Moscow sent Vice-Rector of the RANEPA Ivan Fedotov under house arrest in a case of fraud on an especially large scale. He is involved in the same case as the rector of the university, Vladimir Mau, who was placed under house arrest a few weeks ago.

A RBC source said that searches at Fedotov's were carried out on the same day as at Mau's: "He is a defendant in the same case."

The leadership of the RANEPA is accused of embezzling budget funds from the Ministry of Education in the amount of 20 million rubles and fictitious employment at the university.

The Mau case is connected with the cases of the former Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova and the rector of Shaninka Sergei Zuev. They are accused of fraud with money from the budget allocated for the development of education.

According to The Insider columnist Boris Grozovsky, the arrest of the RANEPA rector showed that even a mild opposition is now unacceptable for the Kremlin. Read more about this in the material “Malignant education. Boris Grozovsky on how and why the Kremlin cracked down on Russian universities.
