‘The Godfather’ actor James Caan dies

American actor James Caan, who rose to fame after playing Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, has died at the age of 82. This was announced by his family on Twitter.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Jimmy on the evening of July 6th. The family appreciates the show of love and sincere condolences, but at the same time asks you to respect their privacy during this difficult time."

Caan also starred in Henry's Crime, Journey to Shiloh, Rollerball, A Bridge Too Far, Misery, and The Eraser. In 1972 he was nominated for an Oscar for the role of the eldest son of Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather, as well as for the Golden Globe (he is a three-time nominee for the award: 1972, 1974, 1975). The actor also won the Saturn Award (1975).
