The British Ministry of Defense has published a new map of hostilities in Ukraine - as of June 22. The previous one was published on May 20. Changes on the map show that the battles between Russia and the Ukrainian army have intensified in the area of Zaporozhye and Kherson.
There are no negative changes in the Kherson direction, Viktor Yagun, a Ukrainian military and public figure, major general of the Security Service of Ukraine, ex-deputy chairman of the SBU, told The Insider. "The army is moving forward, there are 15 kilometers left to Kherson itself."
According to him, now "the situation is escalating" in the Lugansk region - this is the only cardinal change in the last two weeks. “There, the Russians threw everything they could throw into battle — all the reserves, all the forces, a huge number of dead, burned armored vehicles,” Yagun said.
“They need to reach the administrative border of the Luhansk region, finally take Severodonetsk, although four weeks ago they said that they had already taken it, finally take Lisichansk, perhaps take part of our group into an operational encirclement. I don't see anything very serious there. We had the concept of grueling defensive battles, and what is happening now is what we envisioned. Yes, we are rolling back a little, but there is no other way. They throw and throw troops, because they need to stay in these positions in order to have something to report to their leadership, ”Yagun concluded.
Earlier, British military intelligence reported that the "DPR" had lost approximately 55% of its armed forces. Russia reported its losses only twice during the entire war. The last message of the Ministry of Defense about the dead is dated March 25. Then the department stated that Russian troops lost 1,351 people killed and 3,825 wounded. On June 1, Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee , said that the lack of new reports was due to the fact that the Russian army had practically stopped losing people due to a change in strategy. According to the BBC at the beginning of June, the number of Russian military dead during the war in Ukraine could reach 20,000.
