All 27 EU Member States Agree on Candidate Status for Ukraine – Bloomberg

All 27 member states of the European Union (EU) have agreed to grant Ukraine candidate status for EU membership. Bloomberg writes about this, citing sources.

In order for Ukraine to receive candidate status, it must be approved by all EU member states. The final decision will be made at a meeting of EU leaders to be held in Brussels on June 23-24.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , advocated immediately granting Ukraine candidate EU membership status.

Macron said that Europe would not demand that Ukraine make territorial concessions to resolve the conflict. After that, the European Commission, according to Bloomberg, recommended granting Ukraine candidate status "as a step towards full EU membership."

Ukraine applied for EU membership four days after the start of the war, on February 28, 2022. On March 1, the European Parliament supported a resolution granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership.
