“As a civil servant, I’m ready for anything.” Peskov said he was ready to drive Lada

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said he was ready to change to a Lada car, as Finance Minister Anton Siluanov suggested. This is reported by RBC with reference to Peskov.

“You know, as a civil servant, I am ready for anything. Every civil servant in our country is ready for anything, ”Peskov said in response to a journalist’s question about whether the Kremlin supports the proposal to transfer officials to Lada cars.

On June 16, Siluanov said that the state should take the risks of Russian business in terms of the sale of manufactured goods, for example, Lada cars with airbags, which the cars of the Russian manufacturer lost due to sanctions. “The state can say: let’s produce an airbag in Lada, produce power windows, we will provide you with demand, relatively speaking,” Siluanov said.

After that, the head of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, Andrei Makarov, clarified whether the state is ready to buy goods that no one needs. In response, the minister said that the state would not buy airbags for Lada, but would ensure that the automaker worked in such a way that it was sustainable.

Makarov asked if ordinary people, not the budget, would have to pay for such a car “at an increased price”. “If we transfer state employees to Lada…” began Siluanov. But Makarov recalled that such an idea, expressed by the then head of government Boris Nemtsov, was already in the 1990s and "did not show its sufficient effectiveness."
