A fire broke out in the port of occupied Berdyansk, which started after several explosions. This is reported by the Ukrainian media, publishing photos of the port, which show clouds of black smoke.
What exactly caused the explosions is still unknown. Russian-appointed "council member" of the region Vladimir Rogov claims that "the fire occurred as a result of a violation of safety requirements during welding work near the place where fuel and lubricants are stored." On August 11, the media reported on a powerful explosion near Berdyansk. Presumably, the explosion could have occurred on the Azov coast of the village of Novopetrovka. There, Russian troops were stationed at former recreation centers.
The Russian side also argued the explosion at the Saki airfield in Crimea as a violation of security requirements. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, there "there was a detonation of several aviation ammunition, aviation equipment at the airfield was not damaged." Satellite images published later show at least 10 planes burned out after the explosions.
Also, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the accident occurred with the cruiser "Moskva". The agency claimed that the cruiser "detonated ammunition", resulting in a fire. In April, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that 1 serviceman died on the sunken ship, and another 27 crew members were missing.
