Russians putting up cars for sale massively roll up mileage – Kommersant

Half of the used cars sold on online aggregators have “twisted” mileage, Kommersant writes .

The Drome service, which publishes car sales ads, analyzed more than 250,000 cars sold in 2022 and stated that 65% of them had odometer readings changed. The Avtoteka service speaks about 40% of such cars.

Most such proposals were recorded in the Far East - for example, in the Jewish Autonomous Region there are 73% of such cases. But in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the mileage is "twisted" less often - in about 45% of cases.

Also, according to Kommersant, in 2021, signs of “twisted” mileage were mainly in cars up to 500 thousand rubles (73%). Now, due to rising prices for cars, mileage readings have been changed for 68% of cars worth up to 800 thousand rubles.

However, the Drome service notes that there is a risk of buying a car with low mileage in the segment from 0.8 million to 1.5 million rubles: in 59% of such cars, experts observe signs of interference with the odometer readings.
