The same criminal case was brought against the wife of opposition politician Leonid Gozman - about failure to notify dual citizenship. Gozman himself announced this on his Facebook page.
“We have just been told that a criminal case has also been initiated against my wife for the same terrible crime - for late informing about a second citizenship! The mafia did not touch wives and children during their showdowns. This is all to hell!” — wrote the politician.
On July 15, it was reported that Gozman was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee, where he was interrogated and released. Then he told The Insider that a criminal case was brought against him due to failure to notify him of his second citizenship under Art. 330.2 of the Criminal Code:
“A few years ago – four or five – my wife and I took Israeli citizenship. We were not going to move anywhere, just in case, for the sake of medical care. And it turns out that within 60 days it was necessary to notify the Ministry of Internal Affairs about this. And we did it not after 60 days, but after several months. And suddenly they pulled it out and opened a criminal case.”
On July 25, Gozman was re-detained because he was still erroneously put on the federal wanted list in the same case. As his lawyer Mikhail Biryukov reported to The Insider, as a result, the politician was released, apologized to him and promised to remove him from the wanted list.
Gozman is the president of the Union of Right Forces, a right-wing liberal political party that existed in Russia from 1999-2008. In the spring of 2021, the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow fined him 20,000 rubles because of a rally in support of Alexei Navalny. In May 2022, the Ministry of Justice included Gozman in the list of "foreign agents".
