A mass rally under the slogan "Home to Europe" began in the center of the capital of Georgia in support of the country's accession to the European Union. The protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, his government, as well as the fulfillment by the authorities of the 12 conditions of the European Commission for Georgia to receive the status of an EU candidate.

Rustaveli Avenue, where the rally is taking place and the parliament building is located, is blocked. According to public figure and blogger Nikolai Levshits, it is expected that the action will be announced in the near future. People will stay overnight, and Rustaveli Avenue will be blocked. The protesters demand that Garibashvili resign before 00:00, otherwise they will not leave the central avenue of the city.

“The European Commission rolled out 12 points that this government failed, and therefore Georgia did not receive the status of an EU candidate,” political analyst Gela Vasadze explained to The Insider. There is time before the end of the year to complete them. The protesters rightly believe that this government cannot fulfill these very conditions.”

“The demands of those present are absolutely illegitimate and unconstitutional, therefore, there can be no question of any resignation of the prime minister and the creation of a so-called government of national accord, in which Saakashvili’s associates will occupy the posts of ministers,” Georgy Volsky, deputy speaker of parliament, commented on the demands of the protesters to journalists. .

Georgia applied for fast-track accession to the EU on 3 March.
