Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the Israeli government for not imposing sanctions on Russia. He stated this at a meeting with students of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, held via video link.

“Unfortunately, we have not yet seen Israel join the international sanctions regime. When governments impose sanctions on Russia, it's not about money or business. We are talking about values ​​and common security... Japan, Australia and many other countries have already joined the sanctions, just like many European countries are acting together with us against Russian aggression,” Zelensky said. “We are very grateful for the humanitarian aid and medicines. We feel that your society understands the situation, but we have no real contact with your government,” he added.

In the war between Russia and Ukraine, Israel, unlike many Western countries, took a relatively neutral position. Jerusalem does not impose tough sanctions against Russia and does not provide Ukraine with weapons. At the same time, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid openly condemned Russia's actions, and the address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Israeli people was broadcast on a big screen in the main square of Tel Aviv. In April, Israel began sending humanitarian aid with medicines and food to Ukraine via an air bridge.
