Up to 30% of Russian artists left the country or stopped performing after the start of the war – “Kommersant”

Up to 30% of Russian artists stopped performing or left Russia after the start of the war. Kommersant writes about this with reference to participants in the concert industry.

In addition, concert ticket sales have declined. According to Mikhail Minin, General Director of MTS Entertainment, in January-August 2022, they fell by 56% compared to the same period in pre-pandemic 2019. This was mainly due to the cancellation of performances by major foreign artists.

Due to this, the share of sold tickets for performances by artists from Russia and the CIS increased. In 2019, in Moscow it was 67%, and in the regions - 89%, in 2022 - 97% and 96%, respectively.

The average cost of concert tickets also increased, according to MTS Entertainment, by 8.6% compared to 2021 and by 53.9% compared to 2019. In response to a request from Kommersant, Yandex.Afisha clarified that the average ticket price in 2019 was 4,200 rubles, in 2021 - 4,289 rubles, and in 2022 - 4,363 rubles.

Participants in the concert industry believe that other segments of the market will compensate for the reduction in the number of concerts. For example, theaters, circuses and musicals. The market of the latter in 2022 compared to 2019 grew by 38%, according to MTS Entertainment.
