The Norwegian company Equinor finally withdrew from the Kharyaga production sharing agreement in Russia

The Norwegian company Equinor has completed its withdrawal from the Kharyaga Production Sharing Agreement in Russia. It is reported by Kommersant with reference to the company's statement.

Thus, Equinor left the last joint project with Russia.

“Equinor confirms that the complete withdrawal from Kharyaga has been completed. As part of the withdrawal, Equinor, in accordance with applicable sanctions, covered the decommissioning obligations accrued and owed to Equinor over the years. After exiting Kharyaga, Equinor has no assets or projects left in Russia,” the company said in a statement.

The Kharyaga oil field is located beyond the Arctic Circle on the territory of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The Kharyaga project was worked on by Equinor's subsidiary Statoil Kharyaga AS, which owned 30% of the project. 20% was owned by Total Intelligence Russia, a subsidiary of the French Total Energies. On August 26, the French company completed the transfer of its share in the agreement to Zarubezhneft.

Before the war in Ukraine, Zarubezhneft owned 20% in the Kharyaga agreement. Now its share is 90%. The remaining 10% belongs to the Nenets Oil Company.
