Russian soldier identified after shooting unarmed civilians at car dealership near Kyiv – CNN

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office has identified a Russian soldier who shot dead two unarmed civilians in a car dealership near Kyiv in March. It is reported by CNN.

His name is Nikolai Sergeevich Sokovikov. Ukraine accuses the military of violating the laws and customs of war (Article 438 of the Criminal Code) and premeditated murder. According to Ukrainian prosecutors, Sokovikov, along with another unidentified soldier, inflicted at least 12 gunshot wounds on civilians.

Judging by the page on VKontakte, Sokovikov is 26 years old and lives in Omsk. On the page of his wife, many joint photos are published, as well as photos of their two children.

The agency does not specify how Sokovikov was identified. But, according to CNN, one of the technologies used by the Ukrainian military is facial recognition. The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine uploads images of suspects to a program that analyzes social media pages, and once investigators have a match, they confirm it with the suspect's relatives.

The video, filmed on a surveillance camera at a car dealership near Kiev, was published by CNN on May 12. The footage shows how five Russian soldiers first interrogate two unarmed people, then release them, after which one of the soldiers shoots them in the back. "Important stories" identified one of the soldiers: he was a 29-year-old resident of the village of Peschanka in Chita, Dmitry Lapshakov.

CNN writes that he recently received new footage of the incident. They show two soldiers shooting at someone near a car dealership. Other videos show that they are two civilians. Also, camera recordings show how five military men drink alcohol on the territory of a car dealership.
