Goethe, Heine, La Fontaine. What kind of literature will Ukrainian schoolchildren replace Russian writers with?

Literature

From the program of subjects "Foreign literature", "Literature (Moldovan and foreign / Romanian and foreign / Hungarian and foreign)" works of Russian and Belarusian authors were withdrawn. On the other hand, works by foreign writers have been added in accordance with the literary process and taking into account the age characteristics of schoolchildren.

Instead of Russian writers, schoolchildren will study the work of such writers as Jean de La Fontaine, O'Henry, Anna Gavalda, Ulf Stark, John Boyne, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Joseph Roth, Alexander Granach, etc. Instead of works by Russian poets, the program includes masterpieces of world lyrics (Pierre Ronsard "To the way love came into the world ...", Robert Burns "My love ...", Johann Wolfgang Goethe "To my songs ...", Heinrich Heine "When beautiful May came …”, Adam Mickiewicz “Uncertainty”).

In the school course "Foreign Literature" they will leave the study of the works of writers who wrote in Russian, but whose life and work were closely connected with Ukraine - Gogol, Korolenko (at the choice of the teacher), Mikhail Bulgakov's work "Heart of a Dog" (at the choice of students and teachers). The list of works for additional reading includes novels by Ilf and Petrov (12 chairs) and Anatoly Kuznetsov (Babi Yar). They will also leave the study of the works of the Crimean Tatar writer Tahir Khalilov.

From the list of programs recommended for use in the educational process, the programs “Literature (Russian and foreign)”, “Russian language for general education institutions with instruction in Russian” for grades 5–9, programs in Russian for general education institutions with instruction in Ukrainian language / with instruction in Russian for grades 10-11, "Russian language and literature (integrated course) for general educational institutions with instruction in Russian" for grades 10-11.

Story

Changes have been made to the curricula of the subjects "History of Ukraine", "World History" for grades 6-11 and the integrated course "History: Ukraine and the world" (grade 10) "taking into account new historiographic developments." According to the press service of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, the additions "should show through lines from the past, which allow us to explain current events."

For example, the updated programs offer a view of the USSR as an imperial-type government. The programs also focus on the study of not only the instruments of violence experienced by Ukrainians in the 20th century, but also the resistance to it. Part of the changes in educational programs is aimed at expanding the spatial contexts of Ukrainian history, creating additional opportunities for analogies and comparisons.

Significant changes are proposed in terms of recent history, first of all, the events related to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The term "Russian-Ukrainian war" is introduced, which began in 2014. Schoolchildren will study "the genocidal actions of the political leadership and Russian troops against Ukrainians", national resistance to aggression and international support.

The list of terms/concepts has been updated, such as: “appropriation of sovereignty” (in the meaning of appropriation, the seizure of the sovereignty of the Ukrainian SSR by the union center), “Russian world”, “rashism”; instead of the expression "policy of Russification", the expression "policy of Russianness" was used, which more accurately reflects the essence of the phenomenon and process; clarified the context of the application of the concept of "collaborationism".

Fundamentals of health, jurisprudence, geography

The program of the subject "Fundamentals of Health" will study issues related to wartime risks, in particular: public warning signals, actions during air raids, shelling, etc.
