Ukraine is behind three explosions at Russian military installations in Crimea, including an explosion at a Russian airbase on the west coast of the peninsula. CNN writes about this with reference to an internal report for the Ukrainian authorities, which was provided to the publication by an official who wished to remain anonymous.
The report describes the explosion near the military airport in Novofedorivka as a serious but one-time loss to the Russian military infrastructure on the peninsula, and the subsequent attacks as proof of Ukraine's military potential to strike in Crimea.
The explosion at the air base, which destroyed at least seven military aircraft, severely damaged the base, killed at least one person and injured 13, occurred on 9 August. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the explosions near the military airport are the detonation of ammunition in the warehouse.
“At about 15:20, on the territory of the Saki airfield near the settlement of Novofedorovka, several aviation munitions detonated on a bunded storage site. No one was injured in the explosion. Aviation equipment at the airfield was not damaged, ”the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
After the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the war “began with Crimea and should end with Crimea – its liberation.”
On August 16, a series of explosions occurred at a military aviation base in the village of Gvardeiskoye (Simferopol region) of Crimea. Earlier on the same day, the Crimean authorities announced a “detonation of ammunition” in a warehouse in the village of Mayskoye, Dzhankoy district. About 2,000 residents were evacuated. The Ministry of Defense called the explosions a "sabotage", as a result of which a military warehouse was damaged, and civilian objects were damaged: power lines, power plants, railway tracks and residential buildings.
