Chuvash volunteers who left to fight in Ukraine complained about the lack of payments

Volunteers from the Atal battalion, who were formed at the initiative of the head of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolaev to be sent to war in Ukraine, wrote a collective letter in which they accused the leadership of not keeping promises. According to them, they never received the payments promised to them in the amount of 200,000 rubles and per diems in the amount of 2,000 rubles. The letter was published by lawyer and blogger Yuri Shakeyev, the New Times drew attention to the document.

In a letter with 45 signatures, the volunteers asked Nikolaev "not to disgrace the Chuvash Republic with these unfulfilled promises of yours." According to them, 90% of the personnel are ready to terminate the contract. At the same time, they noted that they are ready to continue fighting in Ukraine, which can be done by joining a PMC or the Chechen Guard. The volunteers also demanded that the money be transferred to them by August 10, 2022, otherwise they would start writing to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Chuvashia gives the war in Ukraine not only its military, but also finances - it is planned that the republic will help restore Donetsk factories. The region itself cannot boast of wealth - in June 2022 it was reported that Chuvashia took 72nd place in the ranking of Russian regions in terms of population income. Currently, almost 16 percent of the republic's population lives below the poverty line.
