The Ministry of Economy of Russia is developing regulation of the market of non-fungible tokens (NFT). Kommersant writes about this with reference to the presentation of the department at the ANO Tsifrovaya ekonomika.
At a meeting of the Ministry of Economy with the Central Bank and representatives of the business community and VKontakte, changes were discussed in the law "On Digital Financial Assets" in terms of the legal definition of NFT. The Ministry of Economy wants to amend it, as well as the federal project "Regulatory regulation of the digital environment" by the end of 2024.
“During the discussion, the initiative was generally supported,” Kommersant quoted one of the participants in the meeting as saying.
At the same time, the publication notes that not everyone can support the idea of NFT regulation. Kommersant has read a letter from the Deputy Director of the Financial Technologies Department of the Central Bank, Ekaterina Vikhareva, dated July 21, in which she emphasizes that the NFT issue is within the competence of the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.
At the end of spring, State Duma deputies Anton Tkachev and Vladislav Davankov from the New People party also proposed to fix the concept of NFT in the legal field. In their opinion, tokens should be subject to intellectual property protection legislation. Consideration of the project is scheduled for October.
