During the war, the Russian military carried out the largest number of missile strikes on Izyum. Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, spoke about this on the air of the telethon.
“We had the most missile attacks on the city of Izyum. We see that 476 missile strikes were on Izyum, and Mariupol is in second place, followed by Nikolaev,” he stressed.
Izyum has been under siege since 28 February. On March 24, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the city had come under the control of the Russian military. On April 1, Ukraine confirmed this information. Amnesty International collected testimonies from more than 20 people from villages and towns near Kiev. They said that the Russian military killed, raped and intimidated civilians in the Kyiv region, including Izyum.
At the end of June, the local newspaper Obriya Izyumshchina reported that the number of Russian military in the city significantly exceeded the number of civilians.
