UK to impose sanctions on imports of coal and oil from Russia by the end of the year

The UK will impose sanctions on the import of oil and coal from Russia. The ban on oil imports will come into force on December 31, coal on August 10.

Corresponding amendments were made to the document with an overview of all existing bans on the import of goods from Russia to the UK. It is published on the website of the British government.

Britain regularly updates sanctions lists related to Russia. On May 19, they included Aeroflot, Rossiya and Ural Airlines. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that as long as Vladimir Putin continues his "barbaric attack on Ukraine", the country will continue to attack the Russian economy.

Earlier, Germany also announced plans to completely abandon Russian coal and oil. It will stop buying coal on 1 August and oil on 31 December. German Deputy Finance Minister Joerg Kukis said that now the main task will be to fill the huge gap that will remain after the EU refuses to supply 158 billion cubic meters of Russian gas per year. He stressed that earlier Russia in Germany accounted for the supply of 40% of coal and 40% of oil.
