Assistant to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia was detained and taken to a detention center in Moscow

The former head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and assistant to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Lieutenant General Sergei Umnov, was detained in the case of abuse of power and taken to the Moscow detention center at 38 Petrovka, Fontanka reports with reference to the Public Monitoring Commission (ONK) .

Umnov pleads not guilty.

The head of the traffic police for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Alexei Semenov, and the former deputy head of the St. Petersburg head office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ivan Abakumov, were also detained.

As Kommersant reported , Umnov, Semyonov and Abakumov became defendants in a criminal case on abuse of power with grave consequences (Part 3 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code), which was opened two years ago. On July 5, officers of the FSB and internal security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted searches in their houses, apartments and offices. According to investigators, from 2016 to 2020, they “persistently recommended” businessmen in St. Petersburg to donate funds to the “Fund for Assistance to the Programs of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.” At the same time, with the proceeds, the generals bought property for personal use.
