British finance and health ministers Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid have resigned. It is reported by Reuters. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Health said that many lawmakers and the public had lost confidence in the ability of Prime Minister Boris Johnson to run the country in the national interest.
Javid explained on Twitter that he "cannot continue to work in good conscience anymore."
"It was a great honor to play this role, but I regret that I can no longer continue to do so in good conscience."
In a letter to Johnson, he noted that the situation under his leadership is not changing, so the prime minister has lost his confidence.
Sunak on his page also commented on the departure and issued a statement addressed to Johnson.
“The public rightly expects government to be managed competently and seriously. I understand that this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.”
Update: Bim Afolami, Vice Chairman of the UK Conservative Party, left his post later that day.
Allegra Stratton has stepped down as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's press secretary. This came after the media reported that a year ago, during the period of strict coronavirus restrictions, a party was held in the office of the head of government. A video was also published in which Stratton, in a playful manner, is preparing to dispel rumors of a secret "corporate party".
