Died animator Leonid Shvartsman – production designer of “Crocodile Gena”, “Cheburashka” and “Kitten named Woof”

In Moscow, at the age of 101, Leonid Shvartsman, a classic of Soviet animation, the production designer of The Snow Queen, Cheburashka, Crocodile Gena, A Kitten Named Woof, and dozens of other cartoons, died. Sergey Kapkov, editor-in-chief of the Soyuzmultfilm studio, told TASS about this.

“Leonid Aronovich Shvartsman is gone,” Kapkov said.

Shvartsman was born in 1920 in Minsk, in 1941 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (now the Academy of Arts), during the war he worked at a factory in Chelyabinsk as a turner, after the war he entered VGIK and from 1948 worked at Soyuzmultfilm .

The owner of the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the medal "For the Defense of Leningrad", the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR and People's Artist of the Russian Federation. In 2017 he was awarded the Presidential Prize of Russia for his contribution to the development of domestic animation art.
