Politician and teacher of Moscow State University Mikhail Lobanov was arrested for 15 days for a post about the war. He explains the arrest by the upcoming elections in Moscow

Politician and teacher of Moscow State University Mikhail Lobanov was arrested for 15 days under articles on “discrediting the Russian army” (Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and “inciting hatred” (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). He announced this in his Telegram channel.

Protocols were drawn up against Lobanov because of posts on social networks about the war in Ukraine. One of them is about the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and “immigrants from the Middle East.” According to the expert, this post is aimed at "humiliating the dignity of a group of people by belonging to a social group (officials and members of the government)". The same post was considered "discrediting" the army.

Lobanov also said that the request for an expert examination had been rejected. According to him, the actions of the "E" center and the prosecutor's office in relation to him are explained "exclusively by the upcoming elections in Moscow on September 11."

On June 7, it was reported that Lobanov was detained because he hung a poster on the balcony with the inscription "No to war."

Mikhail Lobanov is a Russian mathematician, political and trade union activist, associate professor at Moscow State University. In 2021, he was nominated as a candidate for the State Duma with the support of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the 197th Kuntsevsky single-mandate district of Moscow. Propagandist Yevgeny Popov, supported by United Russia and the Moscow Mayor's Office, became his main competitor. During the counting of votes, Lobanov was ahead of Popov by 10.5 thousand votes, but after entering the data of remote electronic voting (DEG), he immediately fell behind by 20 thousand votes. After that, Lobanov filed a lawsuit demanding that the voting results be canceled at polling station No. 5002 in the Kuntsevsky single-mandate constituency in Moscow.
