The Ministry of Emergency Situations plans to request 15 billion for the implementation of the Safe City system on the border with Ukraine. 150 billion has already been spent on its creation.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry is going to request 15 billion rubles from the federal budget to introduce the Safe City system in regions bordering Ukraine. Kommersant writes about this, citing sources close to the project.

"Safe City" is a system for ensuring the safety of regions. It includes specialized software, industrial motion sensors, video surveillance cameras with analytics and environmental monitoring. According to Kommersant, it is planned to be implemented in a year and a half. The system will operate in the Krasnodar Territory, Voronezh and Belgorod regions, as well as in the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to a Kommersant source, the implementation of the Safe City has become an "extremely urgent task" in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine. This is especially true of the "multiple increase in threats of sabotage attacks on civilian infrastructure." The main task of the system is to recognize fights, weapons, accidents.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations began the development of the "Safe City" back in 2014, it took 150 billion rubles to create it. After the launch in 12 regions, the department proposed to make the project part of the new state information system and requested another 97 billion rubles for this. The allocation of funds was not approved, as the Ministry of Economy criticized the project because of its cost. It is in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the "Safe City" that the Ministry of Emergency Situations is going to test it in the border areas.
