Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed the law on information security. It prohibits the rebroadcasting of news and analytical programs from countries that have not ratified the Convention on Transfrontier Television. Among them is Russia. This was stated by the head of the council on television and radio, Liliana Vitsu. She noted that Russian military films also fall under the law.
In addition, the law provides a definition of the term “disinformation”. According to the wording, this is information that “justifies or promotes military aggression, hybrid type aggression, terrorism, dictatorial regimes.”
According to Vicu, TV channels can be fined from 40,000 to 100,000 lei ($2,100 to $5,255) for spreading misinformation. If they are violated again, their broadcast license may be suspended for up to 7 days. The law will come into force on June 24.
At the beginning of June, 80 remaining Russian TV channels were banned from broadcasting in Latvia. This decision was made in connection with the new legislative norm of the country. According to it, programs registered in a country that threatens the independence and territorial integrity of another state cannot work in Latvia.
