Lithuania has stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to the Kaliningrad region

On the night of June 17-18, Lithuanian railways stopped the transit of products that fell under Western sanctions to Kaliningrad. They notified the leadership of the region about this, said the governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov.

Up to 50% of goods transported to Kaliningrad from the regions of Russia fell under the ban. According to Alikhanov, now urgent delivery of additional ships will be required to deliver goods to the Ust-Luga-Baltiysk ferry line.

Among the goods that fell under the ban are construction materials, cement and metals. Alikhanov called the cessation of transit "an attempt to strangle the region" and said that now the price of transportation to the region will increase. According to him, the Kaliningrad region will demand clarification from the European Commission and, if necessary, will request subsidies for transportation from the Russian authorities.
