The Zakharov publishing house decided to take all its books from the Molodaya Gvardiya store on Polyanka Street in Moscow after the store, on its own initiative, removed the books of the writer Boris Akunin from sale. This is stated in the statement of the publisher.
“We inform our readers and partners that the Young Guard store decided not to wait for a decree / order / order to remove from the shelves the books of B. Akunin, who they once loved so much, and, having shown remarkable will, he himself accepted this bold in every sense solution.
We also decided not to lag behind and, along with the books of the above-named author, took away from them all the other books published by us. Disappear so disappear!!!
So there will never be any more of our books in the Young Guard at Polyanka. Even if the sun comes up. The doctor said “to the morgue,” which means to the morgue.”
Writer Boris Akunin opposed the war with Ukraine. Together with ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and economist Sergei Guriev, he launched the Real Russia project to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees. Akunin left Russia in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea.
This is not the first time that the works of writers who condemned the war have been banned. On June 8, the Moscow Yermolova Theater removed from the repertoire the play directed by Maxim Didenko "Text" based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The writer announced this in his Telegram channel. On the eve of the Russian authorities put Glukhovsky on the international wanted list in the case of "fakes" about the Russian army, instituted after his anti-war post on Instagram.
